Rescue Plate Instructions
***Make sure your vehicle is safe to work on***
Chock tires to ensure the vehicle does not roll, as you will need to lay under the frame of the vehicle.
Locate the shift motor, which can be found on the rear portion of the transfer case.
At the rear of the transfer case, disconnect the wire connector from the feed wire harness. To disconnect, squeeze the locking tabs, then pull the connectors apart.
Remove the wire connector from the mounting bracket on the rear cover. It may be necessary to remove the two bolts and the bracket itself.
Remove the locking sleeve from the wire connector by hooking and pulling it up from the bottom. This can be accomplished by using a small hook pick or creating one by
bending the end of a small, thin wire or paperclip.
Remove the brown wire from the No.1 center position in the connector. Next, remove the green speed sensor wire from the No.4 connector position and the blue wire from the No.5 connector position.
Remove the four (4) 6mm bolts that hold the motor to the case. Three (3) of the bolts around the drive will form a triangle. The fourth bolt will be the support mount on the end of the motor.
With the motor and wiring now removed, the shaft that selects the mode/range of the transfer case will be exposed.
Place the Rescue Plate over the triangular shaft with the text oriented to be read from left to right (2WD,4H,4L).
Using your hand or a 3/8 drive ratchet, rotate the plate to the desired mode/range. The selected mode will appear at the top of the plate (text will be parallel to ribs). To switch from 2WD to 4H/L, rotate counter-clockwise.
[Rescue Plate to right is shown in 2WD]
After selecting the desired mode, place the three (3) fasteners (included) in the mounting holes and tighten until finger tight (remove the ratchet wrench if used).
The transfer case will remain in the selected mode/range until the plate is removed.
